Gilgamesh

Final Fantasy V

The famed swordsman has arrived, sort of. A being of unclear origin, design, and weapon choice, albiet alongside a constant yearning for more weapons and to attempt combat in as much a honorable way as a guy with 6+ arms can offer a regular guy, Gilgamesh first appeared in FFV to oppose the Warriors of Light on Exdeath's dime until a eventual failure and betrayal would lead to his entrapment in the rift. With that being said, he still lives on and has been a reoccuring character in the series ever since, even in remakes of titles predating FFV! At least, when he can get out of the rift that is.

Gameplay Tips

  • Press attack again during Gilgamesh's stilt (Wind Slash), to send the tornado forward. But beware, it'll lose its multihit and projectile destroying nature on the move.
  • The wind from Gilgamesh's Down Smash (Sword's Dance) gets stronger with charge too, not just its power!
  • Gilgamesh can charge his down air (Eletrocute) to track every enemy down with a lightningbolt. But be careful, as this charged version is rather slow to begin!
  • Gilgamesh can fly around the screen during his Neutral Special Hurricane. While its better horizontally then vertically, this is by far his best move for recoveries.
  • Gilgamesh's Neutral EX, trades Hurricane's mobility for suction as it drags people in instead! For 1+ stocks of meter, holding a attack button will extend the attack too.
  • Gilgamesh's Side Special, Death Claw, varies in damage, knockback, range, and more based on the the 7(?) weapons he can draw. But for Side C, its Excalibur or bust!
  • Gilgamesh's Up Special, Jump, has him "superjump" into action before coming back down! If you hit somebody on the return trip, you'll even get a buff for your troubles!
  • For Gilgamesh's Up EX, his Naginatas join the mix to drag the opponent down with him! he also gets all 3 buffs from this, but try not to hit the ground empty-handed!
  • For Gilgamesh's Up Special/EX buffs, Shell makes him projectile immune on occation, Haste lets him ignore endlag, and Protect reduces the damage he takes
  • Gilgamesh fires off a Rocket Punch for Down Special. But if flying fists aren't enough, his Down EX Missile tracks, hits harder, and can be spammed (meter allowing)
  • The legendary sword Excalibur is one of Gilgamesh's strongest weapons! But be wary, its red copy Excalibur only does 1 damage instead!
  • Gilgamesh's Prism Shatter Strongest Sword's true potential is in your hands! Either time your input well, poorly, or press left/right to adjust its follow-up.
  • When Gilgamesh grabs Excalibur during his Prism Shatter, it'll upgrade from Strongest Sword to Ultimate Illusion, the strongest of his Prism Shatter versions!

Trivia

  • Gilgamesh, unlike many other reoccuring Final Fantasy characters, is implied to be the same being in his many apperances. He must not like it much in the void
  • Gilgamesh wields no less then 10 weapons in battle. Can you name them all?
  • Gilgamesh is known for having fake replicas of other Final Fantasy characters. Did you actually think he had THE Masamune?
  • Gilgamesh actually tried the whole gun thing out. Turns out swords are more fun for him.
  • If you're lucky, Gilgamesh's Down Taunt may brandish the STRONGEST OF SWORDS!
